QUESTIONS
Questions
What Tornu measures, how swing video works, and what you need to get started.
What does Tornu measure?
Tornu measures four things on your Apple Watch for every swing: your backswing time, your downswing time, your tempo (the ratio between them) and your Crest, the point in the downswing where your hands gained speed fastest. It keeps a running spread for each club so you can see how consistently you repeat them.
What is a good golf swing tempo?
Tempo is your backswing time divided by your downswing time. Tour players cluster near 3 to 1. Landing on the same ratio swing after swing matters more than the exact number, which is why Tornu shows the spread for every club in your bag.
What is Crest?
Crest is the point in your downswing where your hands gain speed fastest, written as a fraction from 0 at the top to 1 at the ball. It repeats to about ±0.02 for the same swing, so a change in your Crest shows a change in your swing.
What are Crest, Axis and Tilt modes?
They are the three overlays on Tornu's swing video. Crest mode draws your hand path colored by your acceleration and marks your Crest point. Axis mode draws a tube around your body at address to show rotation against sway. Tilt mode draws your shoulder, hip and spine lines, with your address position shown dashed.
Do I need my iPhone with me while I swing?
No. Your Apple Watch measures on its own and stores your sessions, then hands them to your iPhone the next time they connect. Bring the iPhone when you want swing video, and use it for your history, your bag and your settings.
Can I use Tornu indoors or without a ball?
Yes. Tornu measures your wrist rather than the club or the ball, so a club swung at air, an impact trainer and a full shot at the range all read the same way. Indoor practice is a first-class use.
How do I record my swing on video?
Prop your iPhone up face-on, 8 to 10 feet away with the camera facing you and choose the front or back camera in Tornu. Every swing your watch reads is recorded and saved on your iPhone, and you can replay it with the Crest, Axis or Tilt overlay, open it full screen, or control it from your watch.
Where are my swings and videos stored?
On your iPhone and Apple Watch. Tornu has no account and no sign-up, and your swing measurements and videos stay on your devices. You can write a full backup from Settings and save it wherever you like.
How much does Tornu cost?
Your first 50 saved swings are free, with everything unlocked. After that, unlimited saving is $6.99 a month, $39.99 a year, or $99.99 as a one-time purchase in the United States. Prices in other countries are shown in the App Store.
What do I need to use Tornu?
An iPhone and an Apple Watch. Tornu installs on both from one download on the App Store.
